A central theme in No Light No Day is according to Gidal the unnatural “darkening” that belongs to the cinematic experience: making the theatre dark so that it can be filled with light again. The two-part Focus shows how we can be manipulated with simple cinematic means that distort our concepts of the “true” nature of things. Flare Out’s gritty imagery stretches our recognition nodes to the extreme.
