November 7th, 2007. Pekka-Eric Auvinen walks through the doors of Jokela High School, and Finland is soon gripped by a national trauma. When the unexpected happens, both the bereaved and the whole society are faced with the consequences of this unspeakable act, having to find reasons for a tragedy that is impossible to comprehend.
This no-frills analytical documentary by Dutch director Alexander Oey delves into the mind of the school shooter and the events at Jokela, highlighting Pekka-Eric Auvinen’s past and the days before the Finnish sense of security was rocked to the core. Although pre-emptive work has developed over the years, coping with the shock is never easy. The school community in particular faces an unprecedented challenge when thrown into violence.
Oey tackles the problem with his own documentary touch: rare footage and interviews try to piece together a puzzle that fails to present a perfect solution even after seven years.
