The film is a sequel for On the Hands of Stalin. It’s about sculptor Georgy Lavrov who made a statue of Gelya smiling on Stalin’s lap. Soon after it was finished, Soviet chairman Lavrentiy Beria sentenced Lavrov to Siberia for conspiring to assassinate Stalin. When the sculptor returned to Moscow after the Soviet Union fell, he was appointed a new home and atelier, in Beria’s old garage.
The film is screened together with On the Hands of Stalin and Lenin’s Body.
Apollo awarded Reijo Nikkilä and director Vitaly Mansky will be present at the screening.
