Scottish director Anthony Baxter clashes again with Donald Trump in this stand-alone sequel to You’ve Been Trumped, a big hit at the 2012 festival. This time, the director gets some answers from Trump himself. Baxter also voices concern over other golf course developments in different parts of the world. The documentary marches in front of the camera a colourful bunch of environmentalists, from an eccentric Scottish fisherman to film star Alec Baldwin.
Around the world, golf course developers seem to be Trump-like self-assured lobbyists, who convince local officials to buy into their visions. Once again, market forces and money outweigh nature and culture, and the validity of the financial estimates isn’t called into question. Luxuries that only the select few can afford surpass the needs of the local residents.
Fortunately, this film also shows golf as it has been played in Scotland for centuries, in harmony with nature. The game itself isn’t dangerous. The power struggle surrounding the golf developments is.
