Penthouse North

‘It is my life and my curse,’ describes the 61-year old Swedish woman, Agneta Eckemyr, her home, Penthouse North. She has lived in the rental flat next to New York’s Central Park for over 40 years. The flat has become a part of identity for this former top model, actress and clothing designer. It is a reminder of a glamour-filled life, which she is reluctant to let go.

Agneta likes to reminisce about her youth – the jet set parties, modelling shoots and her career as a clothing designer. Even though her rise from a normal Swedish girl to a celebrity is like something out of a fairy tale, she can’t keep hanging on to the past. The years have gone by and the former Playboy cover girl has to ponder who could lend her money for the rent and the phone bill. Agneta also has another concern: her health is failing and she is ever more dependent on the help of friends.

Penthouse North is, above all, a story about aging. The film follows the everyday life of the absent-minded, sensitive and charming Agneta as well as her fight to hold on to the anchor in her life, Penthouse North.
